Hithaelin was born in Gondolin, about 70 years before the Battle of the Unnumbered Tears. Her father was a farmer on the outskirts of Gondolin, and her mother a housewife. She was a normal child, albeit slightly introverted. She spent most of her first 20 years in the wild, and it was only when she entered into the city for the first time that her ambitions to be an accountant (for she loved calculations) changed. The small child wandered into a smithy and was fascinated by what the elves were doing. She was especially interested in the more delicate art of jewellery making.

With the agreement of her parents, she entered into an apprenticeship in the House of the Hammer of Wrath, mainly practicing the polishing of jewels and the designing of adornments. As a result she is seriously lacking in the areas of weapons and sword forging.

Being a young adult elf, she left Gondolin to fight in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. Unhappily, her father was slain in combat and she still thinks she saw her mother being taken captive, alive, although others tried to tell her otherwise. Hithaelin survived the battle, and returning to Gondolin, took up residence in the city.

She currently desires to swear allegiance to the House of the Mole, because she thinks she cannot fully realise her ambitions in an old and established house. She is convinced there will be a difference in a newer house.

Her unusual red hair is inherited from her father’s side of the family, which is the 2nd generation of some of Mahtan’s people in Valinor. She can wield a sword passably, but the inertia of her nature means that usually she ends up backing out from an argument instead of starting a fight.

She has also gained a reputation for being fickle in romantic matters.
